Fill Your Own cup first
You will have the energy to fully engage with your children when your own cup is full. It is impossible to give something you don’t have. If you are running on empty you have nothing to give your child, and instead of enjoying the experience of parenting it can become a burden causing anger and resentment. Your children will most likely be on the receiving end of that frustration.
What does filling your own cup mean? It is different for each of us. Maybe its spending time pursuing a hobby, spending time with friends, exercising, getting enough sleep, taking time for yourself to be alone. It is important that you identify what it is you need to do to take care of yourself and fill your cup.
If you are full, when your child asks something of you, you will be in a better position to give it. You will feel more content and happy in your life, which will spill over onto the lives of your children and partner. Parenting should be more than a chore, it should generally be a joy and satisfying and when it is, the child will be free of any guilt or need to take care of his parents.
